How To Plan The Most Amazing 2020 Ever!

Moving Into The New Decade With Intention

As we move into 2020 a new decade is beginning. It’s a very exciting time, and we’re going through a huge transition. Going into the new year with intention about what we want to achieve, who we want to be, and what we want to do with our time is a great way to have an amazing year.

In today’s post, I want to talk about some of the ways you can get ahead. Talking about it is one thing. We want to make positive changes, and try to ensure you have an amazing year.

Behaving comes from intention, and our behaviour comes from our mindset. Thoughts that we have become the way we act and drive how we interact with the world around us.

By making positive changes to our mindset and getting a fresh perspective, we can behave in a way that leads to action. Getting your intention right from the start means that you’re thinking the right way, which in turn makes you behave most effectively.

Set Your Intentions For The Year Ahead

Intentions are goals and aims. Want to grow your business? That’s a goal. Want to travel to Paris? That’s also a goal.

You are intending to do something, and you can take action to make it happen.

Set up a list of your intentions for the year ahead. It’s a great way to make sure that you start with a clear expectation for the next 12 months.

Just like in my post Create A Life Audityou want to take stock of where you are at the present moment, and then think about where you want to go. Spend some time going through your current position, evaluating each area of your life. Choose the areas you want to improve in and think about what you are looking to achieve.

I am currently reading an extremely motivational book called The One Thing by Gary Keller, which is driving my thought process around goals at the moment.

In short, the premise of the book is around focusing on the ‘one thing’ that you need to do that makes everything else easy or irrelevant. The way you use it makes you tune out everything else as the distractions they truly are and get the one vital thing done.

How To Set Your Intentions For The Year Ahead

For me, I think it’s a good idea to decide the one big goal that you have for 2020, and figure out all the action you need to take to get yourself there.

Work backwards from the huge goal and think logically about the skills and experience you need, the opportunities you need to create, and the other steps you need to take.

Of course, there will be many other things you want to achieve across the year. Try to avoid spamming your list with unrealistic things that potentially put you off and leave you feeling more concerned or overwhelmed than inspired.

Instead, choose a selection of serious things that you know you will have the desire and be able to put the effort into them. Be specific, narrow them down, and be choosy! Don’t add things in just for the sake of it, or based on what other people are expecting of you. Avoid worrying about what you ‘should’ be doing, and think about what you want to do with your time.

At the end of the day, these are your intentions for your life. You’re going to improve your life. And by doing so you marginally improve the lives of those around you. They feel more inspired and encouraged to start doing more in their own lives.

Plan To Experience New Things

Experiencing new things is key to feeling good about life.

The boost to your mood, the experience they will bring, and the lessons you learn improve your outlook in a big way. Spend some time thinking about things you’ve seen or heard about that you would like to try.

Speak to your friends and family about the things they’ve been doing and see if anything takes your fancy. Try things out and don’t put pressure on yourself to love it and stick it out forever.

Taking the changes and giving things a go is much more important than finding your next ‘big thing’.

You’ll never find something if you don’t try!

Implement Appropriate Boundaries Into Your Life

People treat us in certain ways, and sometimes we don’t even realise that this bothers us. The feelings might be pushed down, or we might not realise that they aren’t treating us with respect or care.

When you come to realise that you might need to change the way you allow people to treat you, placing some appropriate boundaries in your life will help protect your mindset and well-being. Boundaries are physical, emotional or mental walls that protect us from being manipulated, used, and treated in an unacceptable way by others.

I appreciate it isn’t always easy to sort out implementing new boundaries, especially when this is a new territory for you. Working on it gradually and trying it carefully is a good way to start.

Examples Of Lack Of Boundaries

If you tend to be a people pleaser and always put others first, you might end up feeling burnt out, and that others don’t care about you. You might feel like you’re always helping others yet no-one helps you when you’re in need.

There are a couple of things you can to help improve this situation:

  • Don’t rush to offer your help to others, only do so if you are asked, and you are comfortable to do so. Ensure you’re preserving your well-being first and foremost.
  • Reduce time spent around people that always take from you, and don’t often return the support.
  • Choose to spend more time with people that make you feel supported, important, and cared for overall.

If you are codependent and struggle to be away from your loved one, you might end up feeling low, struggling with self-confidence, and rely on someone else for your comfort and happiness.

There are a couple of things you can do to help improve this situation:

  • Spend time on your own more often, and work on enjoying your own company. Build trust in yourself; you could do this by taking classes and becoming more capable. This will give you the confidence in yourself to survive alone.
  • Try to find some friends, or spend more time with your current circle. Get involved with more social events and train yourself to feel more comfortable in other people’s company.
  • Talk to your partner and discuss your feelings. Help them understand you want to become more self-sufficient, and they might make some changes to spend more time away from you too, which is perfectly healthy! You should have a life of your own, and a life together.

There is plenty of content out there around personal boundaries and allowing yourself to be treated properly. Spend some time learning about yourself and putting effort into your own needs, thoughts and feelings.

Moving into 2020 with a more positive mindset surrounding your personal boundaries is a great move for the coming year.

Chase Your Career Goals

Want to move forward in your career, approach new opportunities and make more money? Of course you do!

Make 2020 the year of your career. Everything can change by putting in six solid months of effort. You can change the trajectory of the way you make your money.

Are you happy in your current position? Do you want to get a promotion and have more responsibilities? Are you looking to gain a new qualification?

As we move into the new year and decade, it’s the perfect opportunity to start making some headway within your career. Think about what it is you actually want to do, and then take positive action to get what you want.

You deserve to move forward, and there’s no reason why you can’t learn more, gain more experience, and put yourself in a position to achieve your work-related desires.

There are plenty of resources online, and you can find affordable courses to take from home using your computer. You can get more involved with opportunities at work, and show your interest in learning and building on your current role.

In this day and age, there are many options available. You might even want to start your own small business. Practically speaking, this is relatively easy to do. There are many facets to consider, but with the internet, and thus the whole world, at your fingertips, starting a side hustle has never been easier. Starting a blog is one awesome option that you know I would definitely recommend based on where this content is coming at you from!

Get clear on what you want and take 2020 as the year you’re going to get it.

Learn About Spirituality & Your Beliefs

Opening up your mind to spirituality and belief might be something to consider as you move into 2020.

Keeping yourself open to all kinds of ways of thinking, and being aware of the different ways people live their lives can be extremely fascinating. You might find that you love learning about the meaning of life and what it means to you.

According to Wikipedia, spirituality is defined as:

Taking some time in 2020 to explore these things might provide you with some relief, some support, or just some interesting information.
